Residue monitoring

Residue monitoring

Residue monitoring

Landgard producers are involved in a residue monitoring program, which Landgard has organised. This residue monitoring corresponds to the monitoring system planned by QS (Qualität und Sicherheit GmbH, Bonn) for stage I production and stage II fruit sales and marketing.

At stage I 70 businesses specifically named by QS are currently audited. At stage II 225 residue samples are taken at present, which have been calculated from the quantities provided for a sample by QS.

Landgard has increased the testing frequency by approximately 200 additional samples in order to maintain its own duty of care.

Analysis of the QA samples complies with procedures specified by QS. It is therefore a system, in which for each product to be tested various analytical procedures composed of individual modules are combined to produce a complete analysis.

Further samples to maintain Landgard?s duty of care include testing of approximately 250 active ingredients in insecticides, fungicides and herbicides based on multi-method (DFG S 19).

The samples are analysed by a lab accredited by the DAR (German accreditation authority), which has also been licensed by QS.

The findings of the analysis are provided to Landgard no later than four days after the samples are taken.

Exceeding maximum quantities and product recalls

If test results provided to Landgard show the maximum quantities of plant protection products have been exceeded (?evidence of maximum quantities exceeded?), Landgard organises the required product recalls to comply with the IFS Standard. This will always be the case if health risks for consumers are identified.

As Landgard is not a producer of the goods, Landgard will get in touch with the producer under the auspices of the chamber of agriculture?s plant protection department and will provide appropriate advice in order to prevent a repetition of maximum quantities exceeded by the producer.
